Marking another year at Naumi Hotel

Over the recently passed weekend, T surprised me with a mini escapade as a way of celebrating my getting one year older. We checked into Naumi, a local boutique hotel in central Singapore. Before this, we’ve driven past it many times and I’ve always been drawn to its design and quirky typeface. So, I was excited to have the opportunity to check out its interior.
I love our room! The use of lighting in the different areas of the room cleverly demarcated the space and invoked different moods. The bar area had orange-red spot lights while the sleeping area was dimmer and cozier. I love how the red chair accented the living area and it did look like it could be someone’s apartment.

We didn’t mention but the staff spotted my birthdate on my identification card and later sent us a complimentary tiramisu.

We spent the evening at the rooftop lap pool. As the sun began to set, and the few other people who were there left for dinner, we had the area to ourselves. With a beer bottle in hand, I sat at the pool edge, dipped my legs in the water, and watched as the sky gradually changed it colour. It was as if I was watching a live painting on a huge canvas.

So, this is what happens everyday.
That night, it looked extremely beautiful.

Terroir No. 2

A little while ago, an opportunity came by to collaborate and I am so proud to share with you the final product.
Terroir magazine is a bespoke bi-annual magazine that seeks to showcase Singaporean perspectives on travel and what various places meant to us. I learnt about Terroir during the launch of its first issue and was smitten by it! I LOVE the beautiful paper, each sheet carefully hand bound. On its pages were gorgeous images, dreamily transporting me to other places in the world.

Public Garden Market

Last Saturday, I set up a little stall at the Public Garden Market, lugging with me the quirky Cookie Cutter family of plush, cushions and lifestyle products. It was wonderful to be in the company of other creative folks, where we could exchange words of support. I was also very well-fed by my friends who were selling their irresistible baked goodies a few tables away from me *wink*. Thank you, gals!

Public Gdn

The market ran from 1 to 8pm and it was a little tiring but all you wonderful folks who came by my stall more than kept me going. It was really lovely meeting some of my readers and you guys had such lovely things to say *blush*! It can get lonely sometimes over here when I feel like I am talking and writing to nobody, so I appreciated that you came up to say hi. For those of you who took home a Cookie Cutter item, I hope it brings you lots of joy. A big thank you! Although the handmade community in Singapore is only just growing, I am heartened by the support I am getting from you. Last but not least, I wouldn’t have been able to survive the day without T who cheered me on and supported me all the way.
Pardon the single photo I have to share (quickly snapped with my iPhone), I was so busy having fun! :p

[Shop Update] - Embroidered Animal Pillow

Ever since Moustache George, Julie and Nick, I have yet to design and make new cushions/pillows. Today, I am excited to share with you some pillows newly listed in my etsy shop! If you are on my mailing list, you would have received news about this a few days ago but for the others, here's a look at one!

This embroidered animal pillow features an original design hand-embroidered on beautiful cotton linen, I am sure these would be a conversation piece whether you have them on the sofa or on your bed. The quirky and adorable animal couple portraits will make others giggle a little. Check out my Etsy shop for more designs.

A reminder to those who are in Singapore, Cookie Cutter will be at the Public Garden Market this Saturday, 18 Feb, 1 - 8 pm at the Goodman Arts Centre! I’ve been busy working hard preparing for this. Hope to see you there!

Selfish Gene Cafe

I visited a new cafe over the weekend. I first spotted it about a month ago and its quirky name caught my attention-- Selfish Gene cafe
Sitting on the ground level of a shophouse, the layout of this casual eatery was long, with what used to be an airwell in the middle, letting in some natural light. But the structure of this place also meant that whatever noise is made tends to get echoed. So, be careful not to chat too loudly! I also loved the two tables I spotted with old sewing machine table legs.

I first came across teapots with long handles in Japan and I thought it made the most sense! One didn’t have to stick one’s finger(s) into a tiny loop and support the weight of the entire hot teapot that way.  So, when my tea at Selfish Gene was served, I was most glad it came in a tea pot with long handle instead of the loop ones we usually see around here. My personal preference was for tea leaves instead of tea bag, but I was happy with the rich aromatic flavour.

Thanks to my sweet tooth, I obviously have to order something sweet. So, I had the chocolate cake which I pretty much enjoyed. I would love it even more if it was ice-cream there on the side instead of whipped cream (ice-cream weakness!).

Selfish Gene Cafe

On the whole, a simple and laid back place where I would enjoy a lazy weekend afternoon at :)
